Why Malta?
The
size
and
geographical
position
of
Malta
makes
it
an
ideal
and
practical
location
for
multiple
subject
fields.
Being
an
island
with
just
a
total
area
of
316km2
makes
it
very
easy
and
convenient
to
travel
around
the
country
thus
creating
flexibility
for
students
to
comfortably
access
any
locality or venue around the island.
The
Mediterranean
climate
generates
an
overall
sunny
weather,
with
mild
winters.
Students
can
enjoy
the
many
beautiful
beaches
the
Maltese
islands have to offer nearly all year round.
Malta
has
two
official
languages
–
its
very
own
Maltese
language,
alongside
English.
That
being
so,
students
will
find
it
easy
to
accommodate
here
due
to
having
the
general
information,
such
as
forms
and
documents,
road
signs
and
menus,
in
English.
Furthermore,
the
majority
of
the
Maltese
people
are
multi-lingual,
thus
eliminating
language
and
communication
barriers.
Results
from
a
Eurobarometer
poll
conducted
in
2012
revealed that 66% of the Maltese people can speak Italian, and approximately 17% can speak French.
Although
a
small
country,
Malta
is
still
packed
with
entertainment,
places
of
interest,
and
a
rich
culture
and
history.
A
quick
glance
into
the
annals
of
Mediterranean
history
reveals
the
Maltese
islands
were
always
sought
after.
Its
location
at
the
centre
of
the
Mediterranean
Sea
provides
easy
access
from
anywhere
in
Europe
and
Northern
Africa.
This
resulted
in
Malta
having
a
number
of
succession
of
powers
through
the
times.
Such
successions
are
the
Phoenicians,
Romans,
Normans,
Arabs,
the
Knights
of
St.
John,
the
French,
and
last
to
colonize
were
the
British.
The
Maltese
islands
got
their
independence
back
in
1964,
and
became
a
republic
in
1979.
This
concoction
of
successions
contributed
to
a
unique
culture,
merging
the
international
influences
with
the
traditional
Mediterranean
atmosphere
and
environment.
One
can
still
experience
Maltese history around the islands – amongst many are the oldest free-standing temples in the world, and the Great siege fortifications.
Students
in
Malta
can
benefit
from
this
multi-cultural
history
and
lifestyle
due
to
the
Maltese
people’s
ingrained
hospitality,
and
their
friendly
nature. The Maltese are known for their warmth of character, eager to help our visitors and make them feel at home.
